Year 8 entry
For September 2027 entry
Ballymena Academy takes part in the shared SEAG Entrance Assessment for Year 8 transfer. For September 2027 entry, families use the SEAG assessment and make a separate Education Authority transfer application naming the school.

What the assessment covers
- English or gaeilge
- Mathematics
SEAG includes fully and partially selective member schools; this page links only to schools present in the Plusling Index.
Two Dickson Plan senior high schools in the index take pupils at 14+ and are not SEAG Year 8 members.
SEAG membership does not mean every applicant must take the assessment. Check the school’s selective and all-ability routes before choosing preparation or applying.

The admissions process
- For September 2027 entry, registered pupils take both SEAG papers, scheduled for 14 and 21 November 2026. Follow the arrangements sent by your child’s assessment centre.
- Choosing an assessment centre is separate from applying for a school place. SEAG outcomes are scheduled for 23 January 2027.
- Name Ballymena Academy on the Education Authority transfer application and provide the information requested by the school’s criteria for the intended entry year.
