Entry information

Basil Paterson’s academic provision starts at S3, rather than age 11. Middle School entry is for ages 14–16 in S3 or S4, with literacy and numeracy assessments and English assessment for non-native speakers. The associated College serves older students.

Entry stage: S3–S4 (ages 14–16); College 16+

The admissions process

  • Contact the school to arrange a visit and discuss S3 or S4 entry, then complete the school admissions form.
  • The school considers age and maturity, course-entry requirements, former-school records and whether it can meet identified support needs. The stated birthday exception covers pupils turning 14 between September and February of the academic year.
  • Middle School applicants complete literacy and numeracy assessments; non-native English speakers must demonstrate sufficient English for the curriculum. These are later-secondary admissions assessments.
