Year 8 entry

For September 2027 entry

For September 2027 Year 8 transfer, Coleraine Grammar uses the shared SEAG assessment in November 2026. The Education Authority expects to publish the school application details in mid-December 2026; that is a publication date, not an application deadline.

What the assessment covers

  • English or gaeilge
  • Mathematics

SEAG includes fully and partially selective member schools; this page links only to schools present in the Plusling Index.

Two Dickson Plan senior high schools in the index take pupils at 14+ and are not SEAG Year 8 members.

SEAG membership does not mean every applicant must take the assessment. Check the school’s selective and all-ability routes before choosing preparation or applying.

The admissions process

  • The 2026 SEAG Entrance Assessment for September 2027 transfer has two papers, on 14 and 21 November 2026, taken at a parent-selected member-school assessment centre.
  • SEAG registration for this assessment, including its final emergency window, closed on 20 October 2026. Families who registered can check their assessment arrangements with SEAG.
  • After SEAG releases outcomes on 23 January 2027, parents apply separately for a Year 8 place through the Education Authority and can name Coleraine Grammar School. The Education Authority says its September 2027 application details and key dates will be published in mid-December 2026.
