Entry information

Hamilton College accepts applications for S1, Scotland’s first secondary year. Its January 2025 policy lists numeracy, literacy and a writing assignment for S1 applicants. Assessments for August entry are usually in the preceding January, but the school says other times can be arranged; no specific entry-year date is published.

Entry stage: Senior 1 (S1; first Scottish secondary year)

What the assessment covers

  • Numeracy
  • Literacy
  • Writing

The admissions process

  • The school accepts applicants for all years from Nursery to Senior 6. S1 is the first Scottish secondary year.
  • The Admissions Policy reviewed January 2025 says S1 assessment includes numeracy, literacy and a writing assignment; current and previous reports/references are also reviewed.
  • For August entry, assessments are usually held in the preceding January. The current admissions page says assessments can be arranged at another time during the year and can be paired with a taster day.
  • Complete the online application and pay the £120 registration fee before an assessment is arranged. The school has not announced a specific S1 entry year or test date on the pages reviewed.
