Entry information

Heathfield Knoll’s mixed, non-selective main school takes external applicants into its Senior School from Year 7. Its usual process is a school visit, application, at least two taster days and an offer if the school and family agree it is a good fit. The school may include CAT4 among activities during the tasters to understand a pupil’s strengths and learning needs; it does not publish a competitive 11+ paper or a test date. Connect is a separate specialist SEND placement route, usually through local-authority consultation.

Entry stage: Main School Senior entry at Year 7; the school is non-selective

What the assessment covers

  • CAT4 cognitive ability assessment may be used during taster days to understand strengths and learning needs

The admissions process

  • Visit the school and submit an application for the main Senior School; external applications are welcome from Year 7.
  • Attend at least two taster days. The policy says activities may include CAT4 to help understand strengths and learning needs; it does not identify this as a competitive 11+ exam.
  • If CAT4 is used, its publisher advises against coaching or practice beforehand because that can make the results less reliable; each section includes introductory examples.
  • Provide a previous-school report and references. The school offers a place when the family and school are satisfied with the fit; a start may be possible within a month of acceptance.
  • Connect SEND provision is a separate admissions route, usually following local-authority consultation.

Heathfield Knoll is non-selective. It may use CAT4 during taster days to understand a child’s strengths and learning needs. GL Assessment advises against practising for CAT4; follow the school’s own guidance about the visit.
