Entry information

Kings Monkton is a non-selective school with its own Senior Section from Year 7. External applicants visit for a taster day; the school may use informal literacy and numeracy assessments, teacher observation and previous-school information to check that it can meet the pupil’s needs. These are not a competitive entrance examination. Contact Admissions to discuss year-group placement and available places.

Entry stage: Senior Section Year 7 entry

What the assessment covers

  • Literacy
  • Numeracy

The admissions process

  • The published admissions policy identifies Senior Section Years 7–11 and says Year 7 is a point where year groups expand.
  • External applicants attend taster days. The school may carry out literacy and numeracy assessments and informal teacher assessments, and seeks information from the child’s previous school. A place is offered when the school is satisfied the child can access the curriculum and keep pace.
  • Admission is on an individual basis, taking account of age/maturity, educational and additional-learning needs and the school’s capacity to support the child. The school describes itself as non-selective.
  • MidYIS and YELLIS tests are taken by pupils at the start of a key stage to inform teaching; the policy says these are not entrance examinations.
