Entry information

External Year 7 entry at North London Grammar School uses CAT4, an interview and school reports or references. The school says no specific test preparation is required. Applications can be considered throughout the year when places are available; ask Admissions to confirm your child’s intended start date and assessment booking.

Entry stage: Senior School Year 7 (external admission)

What the assessment covers

  • Verbal reasoning
  • Non-verbal reasoning
  • Quantitative reasoning
  • Spatial reasoning

Assessment provider: GL Assessment (CAT4)

The admissions process

  • Complete the school’s registration form and arrange the entrance assessment. The current admissions page lists a £200 assessment fee; confirm current charges and the booking with Admissions.
  • For Year 7, the entrance assessment is CAT4. Its verbal, non-verbal, quantitative and spatial domains are reasoning measures, not a separate English and maths curriculum paper.
  • The admissions team considers the assessment, an interview and the current-school report or reference. The 2026–27 policy normally places UK applicants’ CAT4 at the school and permits online assessment for overseas applicants.
  • The registration form checked on 24 October 2026 offers an assessment on 14 November 2026 at 11am. This is a test booking date, not a stated September intake year.
  • Successful applicants receive an offer and complete its acceptance and payment steps. Contact Admissions for availability and any assessment adjustments before booking.
