Entry information
For September 2027 entry
For September 2027, QEGS uses the FSCE entrance test and a separate local-authority application. The main entrance testing has concluded; the school asks families seeking a catch-up test to contact Admissions. The published local-authority application and Pupil Premium supplementary-form deadline is 31 October 2026.
Entry stage: 11+ / Year 7
What the assessment covers
- English
- Mathematics
- Wider Key Stage 2 curriculum
Assessment provider: FSCE
The admissions process
- Read the September 2027 admissions policy and contact admissions@qegs.cumbria.sch.uk about any catch-up or late-testing request. The school says main entrance testing has concluded; individual eligibility and timing must be confirmed with Admissions.
- Submit the local-authority secondary-school preference application by 31 October 2026. Test registration alone is not a school-place application. If applying under the Pupil Premium priority, return the policy’s supplementary form and supporting evidence by the same date.
- The school’s 2026 format notice lists three papers: Adventure, approximately 60 minutes; Beacon, approximately 40 minutes; and Compass, approximately 35 minutes. Adventure and Compass are multiple choice. Use the official guides for the other response instructions and sample formats.
- FSCE draws on knowledge and skills across Key Stage 2 through the end of Year 5, including English and maths within a wider curriculum. Its QEGS FAQ explicitly excludes non-verbal reasoning. The content and question styles can vary, so the official familiarisation is the best guide to what to expect.
- Discuss access arrangements and provide the requested school or professional evidence directly to Admissions. Meeting the academic standard does not guarantee a place; read the admissions policy for how available places are allocated.
- Offers for this intake are made on 1 March 2027. The school’s policy explains post-allocation testing, waiting lists and appeals. Contact 01768 864621 or admissions@qegs.cumbria.sch.uk for the arrangements that apply to your child.

Know what to expect
Follow the school’s assessment guidance.
FSCE recommends broad school learning, regular reading, everyday mental arithmetic, problem-solving and imaginative logic games, alongside its free official familiarisation. It says intensive tutoring and hours of past papers or mock exams are unnecessary, and it does not endorse commercial 11+ books or past papers. Use Plusling for general learning and confidence alongside the school’s guidance.
