Year 7 entry
For September 2027 entry
Southend High School for Girls uses the CSSE 11+ selection process for Year 7. For September 2027 entry, the main test was 19 September 2026 and results were scheduled for 12 October. Families also need a separate home-local-authority application. CSSE publishes official English and Mathematics familiarisation materials and past papers.
- Assessment
- Consortium of Selective Schools in Essex (CSSE)
What the assessment covers
- English
- Mathematics
Each member school has its own admission policy; check the school before applying.
CSSE’s member list also includes partially selective schools outside this index.
The free CSSE papers are historical 2021–2023 exams; the consortium says applied reasoning was removed from English from the 2025-entry test, so older papers do not exactly model 2027.

The admissions process
- Register separately with CSSE for testing; registration for September 2027 entry closed 19 June 2026
- The main shared CSSE test for September 2027 entry took place on 19 September 2026
- Results were scheduled for 12 October 2026; name the school on the separate home-local-authority application by its deadline, with the CSSE guide listing 31 October 2026
- Meeting the test standard establishes eligibility, not a guaranteed school place; published school allocation criteria still apply
