Year 7 entry

For September 2027 entry

For September 2027 Year 7 entry, applicants use the shared Wirral non-Catholic grammar assessment. The two Quest papers were held on 15 September 2026 and covered verbal reasoning, mathematics and non-verbal reasoning. A separate school-place application is required; meeting the grammar standard does not guarantee an offer.

Assessment

What the assessment covers

  • Verbal reasoning
  • Non verbal reasoning
  • Mathematics

St Anselm’s College and Upton Hall School arrange their own Catholic grammar assessments.

Meeting the grammar standard does not guarantee a place; each school applies its admission policy.

Use Wirral Council’s current timetable for deadlines; the candidate pack’s 31 May registration date is superseded by the council’s noon 1 June 2026 closure.

The admissions process

  • Wirral Council says registration closed at noon on 1 June 2026. Its published late-registration exception is for children who moved to Wirral after the deadline; contact the council about individual circumstances.
  • The candidate pack describes two papers of about 50 minutes each: verbal reasoning, then mathematics and non-verbal reasoning, with a short break between them.
  • Apply for a school place by 31 October 2026. Families elsewhere in England apply through their home local authority; families outside England use Wirral’s application form.
  • Read the school’s September 2027 policy for eligibility and oversubscription priorities. Test registration and a qualifying result are separate from the school-place application.
